Over the years, hair transplant procedures have evolved greatly. Many years ago, Dr. Okuda, a Japanese doctor busied himself trying to provide new sets of eyebrows for people who have lost theirs due to accidents and other traumatic incidences. This happened before the World War II. However, when the war broke out, he was left with no choice but to temporarily set aside his desire to provide hair transplant for victims.

Dr. Norman Orentreich, published on the use of hair transplant surgery in 1959. This year marked his attempt at trying to move balding-proof hair follicles to the balding areas of the patient’s head. The hairs found at the back and sides of the head were used to accomplish this.

With this, the doctors tried to determine two things. First, are the hair follicles the cause for balding resistant because of its location and second, is it due to something inherent in the follicles itself.

In the 1960s and on to the 1970s, various hair transplant procedures were grafted in a round plug pattern. These plugs seemed to be unsightly.
